Why I choose YouTube over Instagram

Why I choose YouTube over Instagram

Hey everyone!

Today, I want to share why I choose YouTube over Instagram, and why I think you should do it as well.

In almost a decade of creating content (oh my has it really been that long? 😂), I've pushed hard on all the major platforms.

While I've found good success across them, YouTube has always been my main focus.

Why? Well here are a few key reasons:

1. 🤝 Deeper Connection

Unlike vertical platforms where people mindlessly doomscroll, YouTube videos are longer, meaning viewers spend more time with you.

This builds a deeper connection, a stronger bond, and a real sense of community.

2. 📚 Evergreen Content

YouTube is the second-largest search engine, right behind Google (which owns YouTube).

This means your content lives on for years. I still get views on videos I made eight years ago.

This summer, my channel pulled in over 600K views per month, even though I only posted two videos.

With a catalog of almost 500 videos, many being tutorials and how-to's, people are always searching for what I've made.

Each new video adds to this growing library, bringing in ad revenue and driving traffic to my digital products and courses.

YouTube is literally making me money while I sleep.

3. 🚀 Delayed Success

On YouTube, even videos that don't perform well right away can blow up months later when YouTube finds the right audience.

This doesn't happen on other platforms, at least to my knowledge?

For example, my video on lighting your YouTube studio has a strong CTA that drives traffic to my YouTube Masterclass, consistently generating sales.

see how it all of a sudden “blew up”, crazy

4. 😄 Enjoyment

Ultimately, I just enjoy YouTube the most. And that's something you should ask yourself too: which platform do you enjoy the most?

Right now, I'm focusing mainly on YouTube, with a bit of attention to Instagram.

A perfect combo for me! :)

🔑 Final Thoughts

Focus on what you enjoy and where you're seeing the most returns.

As I mentioned in the last issue, for us solo creators, it's best to master one platform first, build systems, and then expand.

Alright, my friends, talk again soon!

Best,
Arnúlfur

P.S. Just a quick note - I'm launching my community, The Darkroom, for photographers who want to connect, learn, and grow together.

If you're interested and want to be part of it, hop on the waiting list—no pressure, just a lot of fun! :)
