Is the Future of Content Creation at Risk?

Is the Future of Social Media Content at Risk?

👋 Hey everyone,

Last week, my mind was honestly blown away.

OpenAI just introduced Sora, a generative AI diffusion model that's changing the game for video content creation.

As video creators, we're faced with some big questions:

  • What does this mean for us?

  • Is this the end of stock video as we know it?

  • How can we, as a community, leverage this technology in our work?

Let's dive into this new world and explore its possibilities together👇.

🧨 The AI Video Revolution

Just a year ago, AI-generated photos were already insanely realistic, but AI videos? They were honestly laughable and far from usable.

i mean what the hell is this? x)

Fast forward to today, and OpenAI has us all floored with videos generated from a few simple prompts.

The progress is mind blowing (you can see it here), making me wonder what's next. Where will this be in a year, or five?

Like so many other big innovations, I can’t fully grasp what's coming - however, I'm excited to sit back and watch.

☠️ The Implications for Creators

My biggest concern though?

The ease of creating videos could flood the internet with content, potentially diluting views for all creators. Not good for us content creators 😂.

Yet, every major shift brings opportunities for those quick to adapt.

🎥 The Future of Stock Videography

Once upon a time, I dove head first into stock videography, building up a portfolio of over 1000 clips.

Despite not adding new clips for years, it's still a passive income source.

Just yesterday I found this notification in my inbox.

But if anyone can generate specific videos on demand, then what's the future of traditional stock video?

Personally, I haven't touched stock photos since AI allowed me to create exactly what I need, and I'm sure this shift will inevitably reach video content too.

Oh well, I guess things change.

🧠 Staying Ahead with AI

I believe that every major tech shift offers opportunities for those willing to explore.

My early dive into TikTok, before short form vertical videos dominated, netted me nearly a million followers on that platform alone.

The lesson? Dive in and experiment.

Remember the excitement of being a kid, pressing buttons just to see what would happen? That's the spirit with which I try to approach AI.

It's here to stay, so we might as well learn to adapt. As a wise old man once said, “adapt or die".

Catch you in the next one!

Best,
